Pinterest

I promised myself that I would not get sucked into the Pinterest vortex but just one click and I knew that I would be in yet another place of no return!!! You just lose yourself in pretty pics like these.
Dang! There goes another new year resolution to cut down my online time.

In fact, I've been spending too much time on Pinterest and not enough on Google Reader which explains why I haven't been visiting your blogs lately. Sorry, pallies! I'm sure this is just something transient .....er.... until something else comes along.

Food and art - my fave combo!

W/W - Keeping the meat off your plate

Growing up in a strict Catholic family, we always went meatless on Fridays not only during the 40 days of Lent but all year round. But my mom would take things a little further. In addition to a meatless meal, she would keep the meals humble to remind us to be appreciative of what we have and to give a thought to those less fortunate. I remember having either fried rice with salted fish or rice porridge with peanuts almost every Friday and those meals drove us nuts!
In her defence, coming up with different takes on a meatless meal can be quite challenging and in those days, Mom had no food websites to devour recipes to broaden her menu-planning.

My obnoxious 13 year-old son says stomaching the stuff I cook daily is as penitential as any other day of the week! Hey, my cooking isn't that bad if I made a concerted effort in it! And there are a few dishes I could rock!

In keeping up with this tradition to skip the meat, I have been googling recipes to spice up our Lenten meals.

I made this last Friday

Udang Kelio

* Udang means prawn in Malay

Turned out, it wasn't much of a sacrifice at all. I loved, loved, loved it! It was so good, it missed the whole penance thing!

Here's the link to the recipe - http://kuali.com/recipes/view.aspx?r=4189

Warning! Not recommended for those observing Lent!

W/W - Borders Lives On

Yes, Borders still lives on in Malaysia, the last of the four surviving overseas locations - Dubai, Oman, Malaysia and New Zealand.
Interestingly, did you know that the Borders in Berjaya Times Square, Malaysia once held the record for being the world's biggest Borders store at 60,000 square feet (5,600 m²); however, this has since changed with the closure of one level of the store. There are now 6 Borders outlets in Malaysia under a different ownership.

Although digital book are all the rage now, we Malaysians are still diehard book readers. Don't you just love spending hours and hours in bookstores and libraries, losing yourself in a haven of books, pulling them out of the shelves and loving the way they feel in your hands? Touching, smelling, reading the black blurb and leafing through the pages is a pleasure that can't be experienced digitally.
What about you? Are e-books for you?

Sleep-texting - Seriously?

image taken from http://www.telegraph.co.uk

I've just learnt that there is a disorder called sleep-texting! People with the rare condition send incoherent text messages while asleep, a real phenomenon like sleepwalking!
Sleep experts say they are seeing more and more cases where people send (often nonsensical) texts while in slumberland that they remember nothing of the morning after.
What's next - sleep-emailing, or sleep-facebooking?
The next time you see a salacious comment on your blog by me, excuse me for I was just sleep-blogging!
