Louise Caola - Cakes In Disguise

What started off as a prank when amateur baker Louise Caola created her first sausage and mash cake as a joke for a friend's birthday, turned out to be a full time baking pursuit for the Londoner. Surprised by the positive response from her friends,  the 23 year-old Caola began creating more faux savoury cakes, posting the pictures to her Twitter and Instagram pages.
Orders started to flood in from all over the internet!

With her growing popularity, Caola  quit her day job in advertising  and seriously ventured into her cake business full time, making novelty cakes and  naming her brand Poppy&Lulu.

Pumpkins

It's still summer here, folks and forever will be! Though I'm not complaining (cold weather depresses me), it does get a little boring. If we had all the four seasons, Fall would be my favourite, hands down.
I made these pumpkin-shaped bread rolls yesterday as I wanted to make something cute and Fall-ish. You can find the tutorial here. I made the dough using the 65°C Bread  method. I used cloves for the stems as they were the closest edible thing I could find in the kitchen that resembled stems. I was pretty happy with how they turned out. The cloves imparted a subtle cinnamon-ish flavour and smell to the bread.

While I'm on the subject of pumpkins, check out the following adorable painted pumpkin ideas from Better Homes And Gardens.
Use cone-shape pumpkins and spray-paint to create these Halloween treats.
Spray-paint two pumpkins luscious matte black. Craft cardstock features, and pin in place.
"Ice" the pumpkins and squash in pretty pastel paints, embellish with lacy trims and adhesive gems, and stack
Draw bats on white pumpkins with a permanent marker
Use paper doilies as stencils to create intricate, lacelike designs

Samantha Lee's Charaben

Food + Art = Charaben. Can anything possibly be more delightful? Kyaraben or charaben (character bento) started when artsy Japanese mothers created cute boxed lunches to encourage their picky kiddos to eat.

Enjoy these adorable creations by Samantha Lee, a SAHM of two from Malaysia. Lee started her whimsical creations to encourage her elder daughter to eat independently. Now, she has more than 280,000 followers on Instagram.

Nick Meets Nik - A Divine Appointment

These pics of Evangelist and motivational speaker Nick Vujicic meeting a Malaysian girl without limbs have gone viral and garnered over 159,000 likes  on Vujicic's official Facebook page from netizens around the world.

Born without arms and legs, the disabled Australian motivational speaker left a speaking engagement in Kuala Lumpur and was traveling to his next destination, when the van he was driven in stopped at a gas station to refuel. A Malaysian Muslim couple came running out of their car, carrying their daughter who also has no hands and legs to meet him.
Dr. Daeng Malis, his wife and two children, one of whom is disabled, had travelled seven hours to see Vujicic.

"When they heard I would be speaking in Kuala Lumpur, they drove seven hours to come try and meet me, only to arrive and find the speaking event was already filled," Vujicic writes. "After patiently waiting more than 4 hours for us to leave the venue, they managed to track down which van I was in. That in itself was no easy task, as there was quite a bit of commotion exiting the event, and our convoy was made up of three different vans which carry the team and our gear."

He continued, "They followed behind us, planning on saying hello whenever we reached our destination. When we stopped for fuel, they came running out of their car. Our host, Joshua, saw them coming up to the van and said to me, 'Wow, you'll never believe what I'm seeing. There's a family with a girl who has no arms and no legs, and they're coming to see you.'

"We all immediately recognized that moment as a divine appointment," states Vujicic.

He writes that the girl's mother was crying, and her father's face was shining with joy.

"My heart was so drawn to them, even after chatting for just a short while," Vujicic explained. "After a few hugs and kisses, and praying together, I invited them back to our hotel for a meal and some fellowship. There I learned that her nickname is actually Nik, her father is a doctor, and her mother is nurse. Like my own family, they had no idea Nik would be without limbs until she was born. We had a great discussion over dinner, and I look forward to keeping in touch and encouraging them as much as possible in the future."

He added, "It's meetings like these that remind me how love can bring together some of the most diverse people. I love that love knows no bounds."

In the Facebook post, Vujicic included the scripture verse 1 Corinthians 13:13, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love"

Sarah Rosado - Dirty Little Secrets

In her series entitled 'Dirty Little Secrets', New York based illustrator and photographer Sarah Rosado uses dirt as a medium for her creations.
"I am an illustrator and photographer from New York. The title of my project is 'Dirty Little Secrets'. I am always looking at other artist’s work online and was impressed by many works that include images created with food, flowers and other objects. This motivated me to come up with my own ideas and create images using dirt. I have not seen this before and felt it would be challenging for me to come up with an idea to shape dirt into everyday objects and accessorize it to create a 3-D effect. Each image has it’s own meaning. Viewers can decide what they really see and what it means to them individually. Who knows, they may find some “dirty” little secrets."    Sarah Rosado
